Carlo Carrà: Metaphysical Spaces

Carlo Carrà, Metaphysical Spaces, is an exhibition of rare paintings and drawings by the Italian artist renowned for his integral role in both Futurist and Metaphysical painting. To coincide with the exhibition, Blain|Southern has produced a publication authored by the curator, Ester Coen, an expert on Futurism, Metaphysical art and Italian and International avant-gardes.

In collaboration with Archivio Carlo Carrà, Coen has brought together archive imagery, documentation, essays by the artist and his correspondence with other artists and intellectuals including Marinetti and Apollinaire. The majority of texts have been translated into English for the first time. Presented together with colour plates of the artist’s work, this book illuminates Carrà’s intellectual journey and artistic achievements.

‘… an excellent, well-illustrated hardcover book, with an authoritative essay by the curator of the show, Ester Coen, a chronology and an array of supporting documents.’ Edward Lucie-Smith for Artlyst
