Rachel Howard, Rachel Howard Limited Edition Print

Self Portrait (1995) is a limited edition print by Rachel Howard. Talking about the work, she explains;

‘This self-portrait was taken in 1995 in our council flat, infamously known as the Barrier Block in Brixton, often mistaken for Brixton prison and whose architect killed herself. We lived on the 7th floor ninety-eight steps up, the pissy lift rarely worked BUT we had a large balcony where we grew assorted fruit and veg and it was our own private haven.

I was so fed up, trapped and actually pretty scared about imminent parenthood. I put on my wedding dress (I'd married a year earlier) put on my wellies (a farmer’s daughter yearning for some country air) set up the camera on a tripod and took a series of self-portraits of which this is the one I like best.’
