Wim Wenders, The River Elbe (1975), C-print
As part of his current exhibition, Early Works: 1964 – 1984, at Blain|Southern London, Wim Wenders has produced new C-prints, based on his original Polaroids.
Wenders was a prolific photographer during this period, taking over 12,000 Polaroids on his travels and on the locations of his films, but gave most of them away. A small selection have survived, stored in old cigar boxes for decades.
The Polaroids have been scanned and reprinted in a process that retains the saturation, contrast and atmosphere of the original medium. The C-prints also retain the size and dimensions of the original, preserving the intimacy of the unique format.
